The Snowman from Jonathan Lyons on Vimeo.
In 1995 I was employed at Duck Soup, a commercial studio in Los Angeles, now known simply as "DUCK". The owners requested ideas for a short computer animated film to promote the studio's CG capabilities. In about 2 days I concocted the idea of some ignorant aliens who abduct a snowman, thinking it is an earthling. In 1998, before the short was completed, or even into animation, I left the Snowman behind to go to Industrial Light & Magic. In 2001, Duck Soup completed the film with Lane Nakamura as director.
The film was on the long list for Academy Award consideration, and the aliens I designed were used for promoting SIGGRAPH in 2003.
